Percussion Duo Finalists

Domu and Namiko
To encourage her son, Domu, to play on stage, Namiko formed a mother and son duo that plays Japanese Taiko drums. The close-knitted family is also part of the 16-member strong Japanese percussion drum group named TENKO. Says Namiko, “We can arrange Japanese Taiko similar to western drumset, but Japanese Taiko is usually played in group. The more, the merrier!” When asked about the universal language of percussion, Namiko has this to share: “Feel and enjoy the rhythms with your whole body, not just your ears!”

MattOma
The duo setup of Matt and Oma came about when they started playing African percussion music for a fire troupe called the Flaming Matrix. According to the duo, "every individual person in this world is a percussionist by nature." Despite being able drumset players (both are Jazz music diploma students who major in drums), the duo have no preference over percussion or drumset playing as "it's still drums (and) we love all kinds of drums." When asked about the biggest inspiration that percussion has imparted them, their answer was fittingly, "Be ACTIVE, RE-ACTIVE, PRO-ACTIVE and together We sound MASSIVE"!

Uan and Sharan
RidUan and Sharanpal are two percussionists belonging to two same bands - Singapore's premiere percussion-vocal band Wicked Aura Batucada and upcoming electronic 'LIVE' dance band SONOFA. Having been brothers and performed in numerous performances in and outside these bands, a special bond develops between the two percussionists and they decided to join the Percussion Duo competition. The duo will also like to dedicate their performance at the competition to Sharanpal's late mother, who has just passed away recently.

And according to the duo, it has never been a matter of preference towards percussion rather than drumset for them. What they do is merely a show of versatility, proving that they are comfortable being percussionists first and drummers second, at this point of their careers.
