Drumming Groups in Singapore -
Soul Percussion
Soul Percussion is a youthful and vibrant performing arts group. Formed in August 2005 by pioneer students of ITE College East, the group has grown from 30 members to 60 members. Soul Percussion does not rely on an external trainer. Instead, the student leaders choreograph the music pieces and train their members.
Since 2005, Soul Percussion has performed at many college and community events. They performed at East Coast GRC Chingay at heartlands 2007, Singapore River Hong Bao 2008 and many other events. The genre of percussion music that they play ranges from ethnic percussion, to samba percussion, latin percussion and world music.
In year 2007, Soul Percussion collaborated with ITE College East’s Malay Dancers and hip-hop dancers in the Inter-Racial and Inter-Religious Celebrate Heritage and Harmony Music and Dance Competition (a national competition organized by Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society). The team was placed third. The following year, Soul Percussion won the 1st prize in Drumzout, a percussion competition organized by NTU’s Cultural Activities Club.
The team also trained students from Metta School and students from SE CDC-Metta Student Care Centre, with the training culminating in a percussion performance by this group of children and youths.
