Urban Drum Crew
Urban Drum Crew is a different and daring percussion outfit like no other. Playing many things and music unique only to Singapore, they are ranked amongst the top be it in terms of accolades, achievements or number of performances. Urban Drum Crew’s first beginnings were in 2004 when they entered a group of 30 eager young men and women for Singapore’s renowned Chingay street parade. Their Stomp-like performance was such a success that they were confirmed by the Peoples Association for the next year, then the year after till date, Urban Drum Crew has played in four Chingay parades.
Success breeds success. The group grew and the scale, quality and energy of its performances soared. Many corporate & community events followed. In recent years, Urban Drum Crew has performed for MediaCorp, SPH, Nokia, Samsung, HSBC , AIA, Temasek Holdings, F1 Singapore 2008 & 2009 and many government and community organisations, to name but a few. Neither is their experience limited to local performances. In October 2005, they received one of the greatest accolades for any perfoming group the honour of performing in the Midosuji Parade in Osaka, Japan, one of the world's premier street parades, where they played alongside other top marching bands and performers from around the world in a 3.3-km-long parade watched by about 1.1 million viewers. At Singapore's inaugural F1 2008 and F1 2009, they are still the most requested percussion performance having been hired to perform a combined times of 22 performances over 6 days.
On the surface, it is part street percussion, part marching band, part dance and movement, yet this is not even the sum of its parts... Urban Drum Crew is about trying new things that fill every bill, surpass every expectation, and delight with every new performance. Urban Drum Crew's arsenal are not limited to mechanical or physical drums, they also specialise in technologically advanced drumming related gadgets.
From only 2005 till date, Urban Drum Crew have already performed more than 200 times professionally, and these do not include any busking performances. Urban Drum Crew seeks to define the true Singapore sound for percussion music, to be as original as they can and advance the drumming arts to an impeccable level.
